These documents attest Richard and Thomas Barbour to be the nephews of the late Colonel Philip Barbour, of Henrico County, Virginia, a landowner and former Kentucky resident. Colonel Barbour died intestate and the affidavits name his heir as his son, Philip, also a former Kentucky resident then living in Virginia. The affidavits were sworn in Jefferson County, Kentucky, before a justice of the peace.
